Here’s Another Serious Reason to Avoid Stress

According to a study, stress can trigger gut bacteria to attack your immune system. Thankfully, multi collagen protein powder can improve your gut health.

Doctors have warned us time and time again: Excessive stress is harmful to everyone. The effects of chronic stress on our physical and mental health are beyond imagination. It can cause you headaches, sleep problems, anxiety, and depression. It makes you more vulnerable to high blood pressure, stroke, and heart diseases.

And just recently, researchers revealed another reason to keep your stress at bay. A study showed that stress could also wreak havoc on the immune system by causing bad and long-term changes to it. The bacteria in our gut are contributors to these changes. This leaves people under constant stress at higher odds of developing various chronic diseases. Some of them are even life-threatening.

Stress Can Boost Gut Bacteria That Are Linked with Autoimmune Diseases

Israeli scientists looked at the link between the gut bacteria and practically every organ and system in the body. They wanted to know if social or emotional stress could influence the bacteria in our gut. They used two groups of mice to determine.

The first group simply stayed in their cages for ten days, while the other group of mice was put for five minutes individually in a cage with a dominant, territorial mouse. The aggressive mouse attacked them at some point. The attacked mice then stayed for a day behind a clear divider where they could lay eyes on their aggressor and take sensual cues so that they would get scared but without exposure to harm.

After the period, the researchers assessed their gut bacteria. Due to excessive stress, the second group of mice had an increase in two kinds of bacteria—bilophila and dehalobacterium. These bacteria are also present in people with autoimmune diseases, especially multiple sclerosis (MS).

Even worse, researchers learned that the DNA of the bacteria could get altered over time, making them more hostile. They can move through their mouse hosts into the lymph system, causing the immune system to overreact and attack itself. This is the very reason MS and other illnesses develop, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and type 1 diabetes, to name a few.

9 Foolproof Ways to Reduce Your Stress

In short, similar dynamics can occur in humans. Stressful events can have long-lasting consequences in our body’s functions and overall health. Therefore, avoiding stressors and coping with stress healthily can help drastically reduce it.

If you do not want to pay the price of stress in years to come, put the following in your priorities list:

1. Reframe problems.

Instead of complaining about a traffic jam, look at it as a chance to listen to your favorite song, read a book, or enjoy some time alone. Stay optimistic and remember that there is a silver lining in all stressful situations.

2. Make time for fun.

Allot a time for things you enjoy doing every day, whether that be cooking, painting, or playing the guitar. Your job may be a big stressor, but finding a hobby that enriches your world can bring the fulfillment and happiness you need.

3. Maintain balance in your schedule.

Find a balance between your work, family life, social events, daily responsibilities, and alone time. This can help you avoid burnout and relieve yourself from the stress of trying to accomplish everything at once.

4. Avoid cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs.

Unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, and taking drugs, are bad coping mechanisms. Instead of providing help, these bring added problems and increases the stress you are already experiencing. In short, address stress head on and with a clear mind.

5. Practice relaxation strategies.

Deep breathing, meditation, and yoga can stimulate your body’s relaxation response. When you learn and begin to practice these methods, you will notice a reduction in your stress levels. In addition, your body and mind will become calm and mindful.

6. Eat a healthy diet.

A healthy body is more prepared and capable of dealing with stress, so take into consideration your food intake. Do not skip meals and eat balanced and nutritious foods to keep your energy up and your mind level-headed.

7. Get enough sleep.

Sleep issues and stress often go hand in hand. No wonder people under too much stress often spend hours tossing and turning at night. Lack of sleep can increase your stress and result in irrational thinking. Be sure to get ample sleep to fuel your mind and body.

8. Exercise!

Incorporate exercise routine into your lifestyle as it can be very helpful in alleviating stress. Aerobic exercises and even simple ones, such as going for walks in the park, can lower your body’s level of stress hormones.

9. Take vitamins and supplements.

Vitamin B keeps your energy levels up, while magnesium enhances your quality of sleep. Supplements can also help you cope with stress. Ashwagandha and multi collagen protein powder can nourish your body with the right nutrients that can help you combat stress.
