You’ve probably heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but you may not have realized just how essential it is. Learn how the right meal and the best collagen powder for weight loss may change your life.
Do you want to reach your weight loss and fitness goals in 2021? You may be surprised to learn that the secret to your success happens very early in the day. While many tout breakfast as the most important meal of the day, few people live by that adage. Whether it is because they don’t have time to eat a full meal or just don’t like eating in the morning, many people still insist on skipping breakfast.
While you may think that eating one less meal is a sure way to lose weight, we’re going to explain why this is not the case. In fact, eating well to get your day started may improve overall health.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition highly recommends breakfast consumption according to research it has published. The study compares the health tradeoff that occurs depending on whether a person eats breakfast or skips it. How was the study conducted, and what were the findings?
Two 14-day sessions with two weeks off in between. The ten women in the study actually consumed the same thing as their first food each day throughout the study. However, during the two-week breakfast eating session, they consumed the prescribed food and drink before 8 o’clock in the morning. During the two weeks of skipping breakfast, they ate part of the food between 10:30 and 11:00 AM and the rest between 12:30 and 1:30 PM.
The results reveal that skipping breakfast dampens insulin sensitivity. This can, in turn, cause obesity. So skipping breakfast can actually lead to weight gain instead of weight loss. In fact, one particular group of athletes rely on this fact.

That makes sense, right? Sumo wrestlers intentionally keep a strict routine so that they gain weight and keep it on. But did you know that a part of the strict sumo regimen is getting up early and skipping breakfast? Then, they work hard throughout the morning training. This increases hunger. So when meals finally come around later in the day, they are hungry enough to overeat.
Once again, we make the correlation between breakfast and weight. Skipping breakfast is a sure way to put on the pounds, not take them off.
Researchers suggest eating more for breakfast and lunch and making dinner your small meal – the exact opposite of culture in America. The diet of the year for 2021 is the Mediterranean diet. But perhaps just as essential as the consumption of specific foods from that part of the world is the adoption of the culture of eating more at lunch and less at dinner. Weight concerns across the board in America agree with these findings that eating big meals later in the day can lead to obesity.
Of course, it’s not all about just eating at a specific time of day. What you eat does also matter. Have you ever noticed that breakfast foods in America often amount to dessert? For example, muffins or breakfast cereals may contain whole grains, but usually, they are full of refined sugar. Check the breakfast aisle at your local grocery store, and you are likely to notice precisely what we're talking about.
So what should be on your plate at breakfast time?
Instead of skipping breakfast or eating your dessert first, what should you have to start your day? A randomized controlled trial from just a few years ago shows that eating more protein first thing in the morning can give you the energy you need and keep you from snacking as much throughout the day. So what are some high protein foods that work well in the morning?
